Methodology

The scientific approach of the project was based on the concept of ecosystem services (ESS). ESS and the impact of increased cultivation of energy crops were analysed and evaluated. Research was carried out on several levels, ranging from large-scale areas, to regional level down to a detailed analysis at small study areas. Project partners from farming, regional planning and administration were involved throughout all steps of the research process to ensure participation and transdisciplinarity.

Target groups

In addition to contributions for the scientific discussion, e.g. the evaluation and assessment of ESS, the LÖBESTEIN project also aimed to provide scientific policy advice as well as contributions to improve cultivation of energy crops within the study areas. Conjointly developed recommendations for policy making were given, e.g. through the Leibniz-Association. The Saxon State Agency for Environment, Agriculture and Geology was directly involved in research and also disseminated project results.
