Study Region


The research approach worked within a determined research area, which was expected to fulfill distinctive necessities:

  • It was supposed to illustrate functional interconnections especially those caused by commuters. Special attention were paid to daily long distance commuters, who are highly affected by mobility costs.
  • It was supposed to display a wide array of different concernments caused by energy price developments. Hence, settlements of urban, sub-urban and rural character were included. Furthermore the research area includee sub-areas that are diverse in terms of economical power and accessibility.
  • It was supposed to present a wide range of political and administrative structures.

Therefore, the displayed research area was selected. It included Hamburg as well as administrative districts of the Federal States Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony, and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
