The area Berlin-Barnim-Uckermark reaches from the Berlin metropolitan area
over the sub-urban Barnim County to the Uckermark County, whose population density is extremely low. This span represents a strong gradient of usage and exposure intensity, economical power, demographic development and urban-rural-interconnections of each subspace.

The challenge of sewage irrigation fields in the outskirts of Berlin is recycling of purified waste water in combination with agricultural and forestry production and landscape design.

The challenge of the fens in the Randow-Welse wetlands is to link nature protection and carbon sequestration through re-irrigation with adapted forms of biomass production for material and energetic purposes. By means of sustainable biomass production in fen areas, production pressure on agricultural areas declines. Therefore competition for food production is also reduced.
