Objectives

The overall objective of the AgroForNet research project lay in the development of regional value creation networks for the sustainable and efficient generation and preparation of dendromass from agriculture, forestry and the open landscape in three model regions. The model regions incorporated in the project were (i) Lausitz, (ii) the loess hills of Mittelsachsen and (iii) the southern part of the Hamburg metropolitan region.

Through the incorporation in the project of agriculture and forestry enterprises active in the three model regions, the project aimed to ensure the sustainable production and supply of dendromass from forests, short rotation coppice (SRC) and from woody structures in the open landscape. The dendromass was transported, dried and compacted by contractors from the regions and used for energy generation by local communities, power stations and industry. The various enterprises were linked in regional value creation networks developed as part of innovative business models.
