Target groups

Innovative value creation networks for the production, marketing and energetic use of dendromass were constructed and implemented in three model regions characterised by contrasting structures and affected in different ways by climate, demographic and economic change.

The establishment of short rotation coppice, in particular, intended to mitigate the economic risks to agricultural enterprises posed by climate change. At the same time, the structure and ecology of the landscape were enriched in a way that is compatible with sustainable land management, and a lasting supply of dendromass was created to cater for the needs of the producers of heat and power.

Methods

AgroForNet comprises five sub-projects, namely

  • nature and resource conservation / landscape ecology‚
  • socio-economics and spatial planning,
  • production and services,
  • communication and public relations’ and
  • project management and coordination.

These sub-projects served as a scientific support framework for the enterprises in the three model regions. The combination of the scientific framework and the implementation efforts undertaken by the enterprises were expected to increase the dendromass potential in the model regions and promote regional economic development and sustainable land use.

Expected results

AgroForNet made valuable contributions to:

  • sustainable regional economic development,
  • sustainable land use,
  • the strengthening of communication and cooperation between regional stakeholders,
  • providing a decentralised supply of dendromass for heat and electricity producers and
  • the efficient and sustainable use of dendromass for energy generation.
